Greenland

Written by Robert Boddington & Clayton Vickery

Vikings had a tradition of burning their boats once they reached a new land. This completely innacurate song is about that and Eric the Red's desperate desire to brand Greenland as green.

LYRICS

00:00 / 01:04

Oh Greenland! Oh Greenland, because it is so green!

We'll build a mighty kingdom, the likes you've never seen.

Yes Greenland! Yes Greenland! No longer shall we roam

You might as weeeeeell get comfortable cause no-one's going home.

Eric the Red was a Viking king,

who woke one morning with an inkering

To sail the bright and briney seas in search for distant lands

He found a land never seen before,

Then burnt the boats all on the shore

Eyebrows were raised, and questions phrased and folks put up their hands

And when they asked him why, Old Eric did reply

CHORUS

A mother she came up to him

With a baby just beneath her chin

"While I love the can-do attitude I do have some concerns.

"I have three kids across the pond

"Two of which I'm fairly fond

"How will I get back to them since the boats you have just burned?"

And when she raised this query, Eric said "Listen deary..."

CHORUS

One week later, a farmer strong

Came with a group he brought along

Said "Hey, big fan, but listen, man, some feedback I must give.

"These lush green fields you had us sow

"Seem to be mostly ice and snow

"In you kindly wisdom how do you suggest we live?"

And when he asked him how, Eric said "Listen now..."

CHORUS

And then the builders of the town

Came and knocked his front door down

"We're vibing with your vision, dude, but walk us through your plan.

"The cold winds we are feeling,

"Cause none of us have ceilings,

"Nor walls nor floor nor hearth nor door, please help us understand."

And when they asked for help, Old Eric he did yelp

CHORUS

One month in the citizens

Called Eric to a conference

"Listen, bro, just so you know, not trying to be mean,

"We're tired of the same decree

"We've built new boats to go to sea

"We sail today and, by the way, this lands not even green."

And when they sailed for home, they sang into the foam

NEW CHORUS x 2

Oh Greenland! Oh Greenland, because it is so green!

You'll build a mighty kingdom, the likes we've never seen.

Yes Greenland! Yes Greenland! No longer shall you roam.

You might as weeeeeell get comfortable cause you're not going home.
